Who’s the fastest on sand?

Just as the last riders are crossing the line for the finish of the Hartley’s to Port MTB Race the Four Mile Beach MTB Sprint will kick off.

A 250mtr MTB drag race along the sands of Four Mile Beach.

Our MC Mark Beretta will be keeping the crowd excited as we search for our MTB Beach Sprint Male and Female champions!

Your first test of speed is to get in fast and enter as we only have 26 spots available for women and 26 spots for men. So, get in quick or you’ll have to cheer on from the sidelines.

The overall champions will each win a slab of our special edition Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival Hemingway’s Brewery Tropical Ale, a prize from one of our sponsors and a shiny new trophy for the mantle at home.

  • FOUR MILE BEACH MTB Sprint Date: Saturday, 7 September 2024
  • Time: approx. 10:30am – 12:00pm
  • Start Line: Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas, 250 metres down from the finish line in front of Surf Club Park on Mowbray Street
  • Distance: 250m
  • Field Limit: First 26 men and first 26 women to enter!
  • Race Program with Men’s and Women’s Heats:
    • Heat 1 – 26 Riders: Competitors will race 2 at a time, head-to-head, but it’s not the winners of the heat who progress to the next round, it’s the 16 best times. So even if you lose your heat, you may still progress to the next round if there were 10 other slower riders.
    • Heat 2 – 16 Riders: Will see the fastest qualifier coming up against the slowest. Then, second fastest against second slowest and so on. The middle of the field should see some close heats! Only the winners of each heat in Round 2 will progress to the next round.
    • Round 3 – 8 Riders: Similar process to Round 2 with the fastest coming up against the slowest. Only the winners of these heats will progress.
    • Semi-Final – 4 Riders: Same as the previous rounds.
    • Grand Final – 2 Riders: The 2 winners of the Semi-Finals will come up against each other to see who is the fastest!
  • Insurance: It is recommended that individuals consider their own insurance.
  • The winners of the men’s and women’s final will win a slab of our special edition Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival Hemingway’s Brewery Tropical Ale, a prize from one of our sponsors and a trophy.
  • MTB bikes only – The same bike must be used for every round, with the same wheels and tyres
  • E-Bikes, gravel bikes, recumbents, road bikes, time-trial bikes, or tandems are NOT permitted in the Four Mile Beach MTB Sprint
