A new start time and a new course in 2024!
The 60km Semi Fondo departs from Wharf Street, Port Douglas, in front of the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina at 7:15am, which is now 40mins after the start of the 136km and 100km Gran Fondo last wave start. Riders will turn right into Grant Street, then take another right turn onto Mowbray Street. This then takes the riders up to Port Douglas Road and another right turn. The course then takes the riders out of Port Douglas through the corridor of palm trees lining Port Douglas Road where the course meets Great Barrier Reef Drive, which will be fully closed to traffic in both directions.
The ride down to Rex Lookout is undulating as it hugs the side of the east coast of Queensland. The first Aid Station is located at the Thala Beach Nature Reserve (amazing accommodation in the rainforest, with some rooms also overlooking the ocean!) at the 15.3km mark. Another Aid Station will be located at the 24.1km mark at the top of Rex Lookout, which has one of the most spectacular views along the course. Feel free to stop, refill your bidons, grab a snack and take some quick photos.
The course will then take riders down the other side of Rex Lookout before making a U-turn for home at the 28.1km mark.
On the way back up to Port Douglas, there is another Aid Station at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures at the 30.4km mark. A great opportunity for a quick break before the main climb of the day, back up to Rex Lookout. A great opportunity to set your best time up the KOM/QOM segment to the top of the climb!
There is also another Aid Station back at Thala Beach Nature Reserve at the 41.1km mark. The course will then take you around through Mowbray, before turning left towards Port Douglas on Great Barrier Reef Drive.
The finish will be a welcome sight for many as riders roll across the finish line in front of the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina. You will be directed to ride around the back of the Marina where we’ll have plenty of cold water ready to cool you down. The best news is that Hemingway’s Brewery is right there at the finish line!
