As the sun goes down on Saturday night the Hemingway’s Brewery Sprint will spring into action. Held under lights, with local bands playing and our MC Mark Beretta keeping the crowd excited, we will be searching for our fastest man and woman on a bike!
Your first test of speed is to get in fast and enter as we only have 50 spots available for women and 50 spots for men. So, get in quick or you’ll have to cheer on from the sidelines holding a nice cold Hemingway’s Brewery beer. It could be worse, right?
The overall fastest man and woman will each win a slab of our special edition Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival Hemingway’s Brewery Pale Ale, plus a KASK Valegro Helmet (RRP $299). Their names will also be inscribed on the inaugural Hemingway’s Brewery Sprint Cup, which will hold pride of place behind the bar all year round.

Anyone over 16 years old can participate (if the winner is under 18 years old the beer prize can only be collected by their parent or guardian) and we’re expecting a huge crowd to cheer you on as you test your legs against your fellow cyclists.

- Sprint Date: Saturday, 7 September 2024
- Time: 6:00pm – 8:30pm
- Start Line: Wharf Street, Port Douglas, 250 metres down from the finish line in front of Hemingway’s Brewery
- Distance: 250m
- Field Limit: First 50 men and first 50 women to enter!
- Race Program with Men’s and Women’s Heats:
- Heat 1 – 50 Riders: Competitors will race 2 at a time, head-to-head, but it’s not the winners of the heat who progress to the next round, it’s the 16 best times. So even if you lose your heat, you may still progress to the next round if there were 34 other slower riders.
- Heat 2 – 16 Riders: Will see the fastest qualifier coming up against the slowest. Then, second fastest against second slowest and so on. The middle of the field should see some close heats! Only the winners of each heat in Round 2 will progress to the next round.
- Round 3 – 8 Riders: Similar process to Round 2 with the fastest coming up against the slowest. Only the winners of these heats will progress.
- Semi-Final – 4 Riders: Same as the previous rounds.
- Grand Final – 2 Riders: The 2 winners of the Semi-Finals will come up against each other to see who is the fastest!
- Insurance: Rider insurance is compulsory for this event. If you do not have a current AusCycling membership, an $8 fee will apply. Please note that your entry does not include any insurance for bikes and accessories. It is recommended that individuals consider their own insurance.

- E-Bikes, recumbents, time-trial bikes, or tandems are NOT permitted in the Hemingway’s Brewery Sprint
